Cardiovascular Research Open Lab Renovation
Boston Children's Hospital
Completed: 2020
Boston, MA
The renovation project demolishes a series of small individual closed laboratories and makes the floor plan much more efficient by combining them into a large open laboratory, thereby allowing nine new island lab benches to expand to utilize what was previously duplicate circulation. It removes two existing environmental rooms and replaces one with a smaller, right-sized cold room, providing additional storage space for freezers and equipment. Overhead service panels by lab casework manufacturer provide flexibility for tie-ins of gas, air, and vacuum outlets to movable lab benches, and mobile base cabinets add to the flexibility of the lab’s setup. The 10,000 square foot project also replaces aged exterior windows to help reduce energy usage.
