Associated General Contractors Merit Award
As one of the best children’s medical institutions in the US, Boston Children's Hospital serves patients from around the country. For those who travel from beyond the Boston area, however, the cost of temporary living can be a financial burden. As a result, we were charged with creating a facility to provide sleeping rooms and amenities at reduced costs for families visiting the hospital. This project helps ensure that every family can support their child through illness, regardless of their income.
To create this facility, we renovated and expanded a Queen Anne shingle-style residence in historic Brookline, MA. Throughout the project, we balanced the historic significance of the building with the needs of the new facility.
Since preserving the building’s historic aesthetic was one of our main priorities, we were meticulous in integrating the addition into the existing house. For example, our arrangement of fenestration was informed by historic precedents, and the addition maintains the house’s residential scale. We were awarded an Associated General Contractors Merit Award for successfully restoring and expanding the building without compromising its historic aesthetic.
