The newly-opened 12-bed inpatient psychiatric unit at Boston Children’s Hospital Waltham is one of isgenuity’s recent fast-tracked design projects. Given the acute mental health crisis among children and teens, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, healing environments are more critical than ever in treating young patients in need of specialized care.

This project was completed on an accelerated timeline and in close collaboration with Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) to address the urgent need for a comprehensive, patient-focused unit. Despite the aggressive schedule goals, the team was able to create a colorful, bright, welcoming, safe and positive environment while adhering to behavioral health standards for young patients.
